Fun food down at the beach

The temperatures are rising, it’s to hot to queue up for burgers outside — and the folks at the Salt food truck hear ya. They will be moving inside with the launch of The Beach House At Salt on Kite Beach. The new indoor terrace and bar has new dishes, including desserts and drinks. We’ll be checking it out soon and letting you know all about it. Meanwhile we’re also eager to try out another newbie down on Jumeirah Beach Road — The Surf Cafe (spot it on the first floor near the Emarat station near Burj Al Arab). The focus there is on seafood, with a live and on-ice display of fish and a chilled-out vibe. It’s open daily, 8am-midnight serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. Call 04-3466292. If you love choosing your own seafood and live in New Dubai, head to Lebanese seafood joint Bahria. It’s decorated in classic seaside style (boats hanging inside a blue-and-white interior) and serves your choice of fish, cooked in a variety of styles. It’s down on The Walk; call 04-4243057.

Biryani bonanza

There’s more than just Hyderabadi or Kerala biryani on offer at Ashiana by Vineet this month. Running until June 17 for dinner, Vineet Bhatia’s Flavours of Biryani menu travels through India’s regions and adds the flavours to nine versions of the beloved mixed rice dish. Kashmir’s biryani has lamb minced koftas; Punjab has pulled chicken butter masala; Laal Maas lamb is from Rajasthan. From UP, it’s Lucknawi paneer korma, raisins, khoya, almond crusted tikka and rose petal rice, while mustard-seasoned fish turns up in the Bengali version. Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra have vegetarian versions, while Kerala has coconut mango prawns and Goa peri peri chicken. From Dh95; call 04-2071733.

Take it inside

It’s that time of year: Iris Dubai is closing the terrace. The indoor area remains open throughout June, July and August, with a summer dining special (we guess you could call it iftar) for four people, priced at Dh150 per person. Served from 8pm onwards, it includes four starters, four main courses and two desserts, all Iris signature dishes and served to share. Call 056-9511442.

Big breakfast on the Beach

Retro Feasts is now serving a (nearly) classic British fry-up for breakfasts down at The Beach (juice or hot drink, sauteed mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, eggs, chicken sausages, turkey bacon, potato hash and Heinz baked beans and sourdough toast). It’s Dh65 and is one of five new dishes on the menu at the kitsch spot overseen by young Brit chef Luke Thomas. There’s smoked mackerel pate; wild mushrooms on toast; a salad of slow-roasted beetroot, rocket, goats cheese, and honey toasted walnuts; and finally roasted chicken leg flavoured with lemon, garlic and thyme, served with wholegrain mustard, honey and spring onion potato salad. It’s open daily, 8am-midnight; call 052-7226462.
