Hong Loong’s Saturday dim sum brunch is back

The traditional Chinese restaurant at the Sofitel The Palm Dubai last month brought back its dim sum brunch — and it includes pool and beach access. The Dh350 brunch (including house beverages and tea pairing) includes the likes of steamed, fried and poached dim sum, Peking duck, Chinese barbecue dishes and noodles. Think prawn toast, pan fried radish cake with dried chicken floss, smoked egg in sweet vinaigrette sauce, Hong Kong style shimmer poached superior chicken with butter rice and vegetarian hakka noodle. It’s every Saturday, noon–3.30pm; call 04-4555656.

New dishes at PI.DUBAI

Chef Joseph Truex has added homemade pastas to the menu at this Dubai Mall spot famous for its Neapolitan-style pizza (by the couple who also run Pizza Guys). Those pastas include fresh herb fettuccine with seared salmon, butter poached shrimp and tomato crab ragu; rigatoni with aubergine, heirloom tomato, basil, chili and ricotta salata; spaghettini with rosemary-breaded chicken parmigiana, tomato gravy and three cheeses; and wagyu meatball lasagna. Pizza-wise, the truffle season is celebrated with a limited-time black truffle, truffle oil, mozzarella and robiola (a soft ripened Italian cheese) pizza, Dh125. Open daily, 10am-1am depending on mall hours.

Kris Kros Lebanon to serve street food

Watch out, Zaroob, there’s another Arabic street food outlet about to chase your tail. Already a multi-cuisine restaurant in Downtown Dubai, Kris Kros has opened a second branch focused on Lebanese street food at Aspin Commercial Tower II on Shaikh Zayed Road (they also do delivery). On the menu are Lebanese sandwiches and wraps, such as the soujouk shawarma.

Famous Dave’s is coming to Dubai

The first international outpost of the US pit barbecue restaurant chain will open at Abu Dhabi Mall and Dubai Parks and Resorts in early 2016. The chain is known for its BBQ and grilled meats, salads and sides, burgers, sandwiches and desserts to its UAE guests. Meats cooked in the hickory live-wood smokers are beef, chicken, lamb and fish. It’s being brought here by Tablez Food Company, the people behind Peppermill, Galito’s and Bloomsbury’s bakery, among others.
