Perry & Blackwelder’s celebrates US Independence Day
There’s no way the BBQ joint in Souk Madinat Jumeirah would let the Fourth of July go by without a party, and this year it falls on a Saturday. P&B will be serving its American-style barbecue from noon-2am. Offers include a burger, hot-dog, potato salad and a soft drink for Dh120, as well as the a la carte menu — slow roasted smoky meats, ribs, fried chicken and Louisiana style shrimp po’boys. What is PI. Dubai?
We’ve seen the hoardings next to Yo! Sushi in Dubai Mall — now we can tell you what it is. A homegrown concept (nice to see that in the mall) from the guys (Amber Haque and Rami Badawi) who run The Pizza Guys in Business Bay, it’s touted as “contemporary Italian soul food”. Due to open in time for Eid 2015, it will serve Neapolitan-inspired pizzas and Italian classics, but with “a modern Dubai take”. They do appear to be taking it very seriously: Haque studied at the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana, which protects and promotes the original methods of traditional pizza making. In the kitchen is US chef Joe Truex, serving up dishes made with organic, sustainable meat, veg and fish and nothing frozen (the restaurant will not have a freezer, we are told). It will be open from 10am-1am.
Can you make it through the ‘Gastronomer’s Dinner’?
If one restaurant just isn’t enough for you, the folks at Jumeirah Emirates Towers have something lined up for you starting August 1. The three-course Gastronomer’s Dinner is a culinary flight served across three different venues, starting with cocktails and canapes at Alta Badia Bar. Italians starters are served at the private chef’s table in the kitchen of Alta Badia Restaurant; mains are in The Rib Room for the restaurant’s Butcher’s Block: a sharing platter of tenderloin steak, lamb cutlet, short ribs and mini burgers. It ends with a dessert platter at The Ivy with a drinks demonstration. It’s Dh750 per person, daily with a single sitting at 7.30pm for a maximum of ten guests. Call 04-3665866.
