South African trumpeter Hugh Masekela will perform at Dubai Opera on December 11. The Afro-jazz musician, known also as a flugelhornist, composer and singer, has been a notable figure in the genre for 70 years.
His 1968 instrumental single Grazin’ in the Grass peaked at No 1 in America.
Earlier, in 1959, Masekela performed the musical King Kong and soon after became a member of South African group Jazz Epistles.
“Trumpeter, composer, bandleader, legend — Hugh Masekela is one of the world’s great musicians and humanitarians and it is an honour to be able to host him at Dubai Opera this December. His unique sound in our unique auditorium will be one of the highlights of the year,” said Jasper Hope, Chief Executive at Dubai Opera, in a press release.
Tickets go on sale for Dh195 on July 13.
