American musician Toshi Reagon, known for her work in folk, blues, rock and funk music, will perform with her band BigLovely at The Arts Center, NYU Abu Dhabi on November 2.

Reagon will also perform for the theatrical production of Parable of the Sower, that will run at NYU Abu Dhabi’s Red Theater from November 9 to 11. Based on the post-apocalyptic novel by the late Afro-futurist and science fiction author Octavia Butler, Parable of the Sower is a genre-defying work of political theatre that harnesses three hundred years of Black music.

Written and performed by Reagon and her mother Bernice Johnson Reagon, it explores and experiments with the form of an opera to tell the story of the spiritual awakening of young Lauren Olamina. The piece is set in a dystopian America wracked by the violence brought on by climate change that has driven society to the brink.

Tickets for the two events are now on sale, starting at Dh50 for students.
