Noche Flamenca’s Antigona

Antigone was the first feminine heroine written for the stage. She was not afraid to show her strength, her pain, and her passion, all attributes that are deep at the heart of flamenco. Sophocles’ classic play featuring the talent of dancer Soledad Barrio, will depict the battle between an individual, disenfranchised woman and the authority of the state and its patriarchy. Tajdeed: Bringing Contemporary Arabic Stories to America

American literary magazine The Common published an issue devoted to Arabic fiction. Co-edited by Jennifer Acker and Jordanian writer Hisham Bustani, the issue was the result of four years of collaboration that began in Abu Dhabi. Egyptian writer Youssef Rakha joins the issue’s editors to discuss the stories and international artistic collaboration. At NYU Abu Dhabi Conference Center (A6), 6.30pm.
