More than 50 dancers from the UAE will bring their best moves to the first ever Short + Sweet Dance competition semi finals on May 13 at Ductac in Dubai.

A part of the global Short + Sweet concept, which stipulates that all performances must not be longer than 10 minutes, the Dubai event follows audition rounds held in April across the UAE.

A similar format, Short + Sweet Theatre, is already a regular event in the UAE.

At the dance competition, there will be five shows, each show featuring 10 acts. Participants can perform any dance form to impress the judges — and audience — within 10 minutes.

Anonymous judges, all experienced dancers, will be seated along with the audience.

“We’ve carefully selected our judges so we get a mix of nationalities and those who are experts in different disciplines,” says Aishwarya Shiv, co-founder of The Ripple Effect and organiser of the event. “There will be two winners from each show — one selected by the judges and one selected by the audience. The 10 acts will then go on to the finals.”

Finals will be held on May 19 with a red carpet gala at Ductac where five winners will be crowned in various categories including Best Female Dancer, Best Male Dancer and Best Choreographer.

Prizes include a contract with Bareface Entertainment, a free professional photo shoot and also being used as the face of Short + Sweet Dance 2017.

Tickets to the semi-finals cost Dh100 for adults and Dh75 for students. Tickets to the finals are priced at Dh150 for adults and Dh120 for students. They are available at the Ductac box office or on ductac.org. Call 04-3414777.
