Shakespeare in the Sands Part 2 launches in Dubai

Second event held to screen films based on the Bard’s work begins on December 1

The second phase of Shakespeare in the Sands, a screening of 37 movies produced by Shakespeare’s Globe, will begin on December 1 at The Junction at Al Serkal Avenue in Dubai. The first event — out of a total of four — was held in October at the same venue, and each screening was accompanied by panel discussions, workshops and monologues by guest artists.

The second ‘volume’ will be a three-day event and will feature plays such as Hamlet, Julius Caesar and The Merchant of Venice. Each of the 37 films, commissioned to celebrate 400 years of Shakespeare in an series called The Complete Walk, explores one of Shakespeare’s plays and includes scenes shot in the locations Shakespeare imagined when he wrote them — and features some of the world’s greatest actors. The Complete Walk was supported by The British Council, The Mayor of London, Unesco and Shakespeare’s Globe.
