Aspiring filmmakers will have the chance to work on the set of Star Trek Beyond in the UAE, Dubai Film and TV Commission (DFTC) announced on Thursday.

An internship programme for the film will run between September 13 and October 2015, and will vary depend on the filming schedule. The movie is set to start filming in Dubai in October.

“We are delighted to be able to offer this exciting opportunity to aspiring filmmakers, who will have the chance to gain international exposure, learn about new aspects of the film industry and earn valuable on-set experience,” said Jamal Al Sharif, Chairman of DFTC.

“The interns will also have the chance to be part of a global franchise, engage with renowned industry professionals, and learn about the advanced facilities and infrastructure that Dubai offers as a filming destination.”

Applicants are asked to submit a copy of their CV and a cover letter to startrek@filmdubai.gov.ae. They should state why they’re interested in working on the film and what key strengths they would bring to it.

Hopefuls are required to have legal authorisation to reside in the UAE for the duration of the internship; possess computer skills, including the use of Microsoft Office; have a strong interest in film; be willing to work long and unsociable hours; be proactive and detail-oriented; and attend a mandatory orientation day. A degree in film and/or working experience in the industry is preferred, as are strong oral and written communication skills in both English and Arabic.

The deadline for submissions is September 3.

Chosen individuals will work across several different positions and departments, including “production office, assistant director, locations, hair and make-up, set design, wardrobe and VFX (visual effects)”, according to a press release.

Star Trek Beyond is scheduled to release in July, 2016 across America and the UAE.
