Grammy-winning singer Angelique Kidjo will perform her interpretation of the Talking Heads’ album Remain in Light on February 3.

During her debut UAE show, Kidjo will bring African tones, melodies and rhythms to the Arts Center at NYU Abu Dhabi (NYUAD).

She and her band will perform a selection of original tracks, as well as put an African twist on Talking Heads hits such as Once in a Lifetime, Born Under Punches, Crosseyed and Painless. The Talking Heads were an American rock band, active from the mid-70’s to the early 90s. Kidjo last year performed their album at Carnegie Hall.

“Angelique Kidjo is quite simply one of the greatest live performers on the planet, in any style,” said Bill Bragin, executive artistic director at The Arts Center, NYUAD, in a statement. The New York-based performer comes from Benin and has a dynamic stage presence. She has performed with artists such as Alicia Keys, Santana, Peter Gabriel and Bono.

“Her expansive and innovative vision… as well as her deep history as a humanitarian, makes her the perfect artist to kick off our spring season and our first concert during the Year of Zayed.”

Mbithi Masya, a member of ‘Just a Band’, will be doing a DJ set to open the night. Tickets to the show, which will take place on the open-air East Plaza stage, will go on sale on January 24 at 3pm.
