Abu Dhabi: Two men who posed as CID officers and lured a woman into the desert before sexually assaulting her have had their jail terms changed on appeal.

The two Gulf nationals were under the influence of hashish at the time of the offence. One of the men told the Arab woman she was under arrest before assaulting her. They then left her on a main road.

The Criminal Court of First Instance initially sentenced the first defendant to ten years in jail and the second to three years, for physical assault, kidnap, impersonating a public employee and drug use. The pair will now serve five years each, according to the Criminal Court of Appeals’ ruling.

The Abu Dhabi Judicial Department (ADJD) highlighted the right of every UAE resident to ask to see the ID of people claiming to be security officials.
