Bomb blast at Frankfurt airport
1985 — A bomb blast wrecked the international departure hall at Frankfurt airport, killing three people, including two children, and injuring 28 more. Police searching the devastated terminal said they found a second bomb left close to the first, but defused it before it could explode. At least four of the injured were seriously hurt, among them a second child. The explosion blew out all windows in the terminal, which handles international traffic. Chunks from the glass walls of the airy, modern building scythed across the terminal. The officials said a fleet of ambulances and a rescue helicopter ferried the injured to the hospital from the airport. The spokesmen said the explosion was caused by a bomb apparently left in a wastebasket in the centre of the hall.
