Punishing the parents of Palestinian youths found guilty of throwing stones is ludicrous
Israel’s hypocrisy is sickening, its sense of justice is comatose and its view of current affairs myopic and bordering on full blindness. And if it were not for the fact that Palestinians are forced to endure a litany of human rights and legal abuses, the latest pronouncement from Israeli authorities should be considered with derision and ridicule. Palestinians who throw stones at Israeli forces of occupation on Palestinian Territory face up to three years in prison. And if those Palestinians are youths, then their parents will also be punished by cancelling their social programmes.
This new law comes at the same time as Israeli human rights groups released a report that says that Israeli troops face little or no sanctions when it comes to the cold-blooded execution of Palestinians who are protesting the illegal seizure and occupation of their homeland for decades. Only 1.4 per cent of the complaints lodged by Palestinians against Israeli troops over excessive force or brutality actually result in any disciplinary action. And even then, the sanctions are nothing more than an administrative slap on the wrist — and a likely slap on the back saying ‘well done, just don’t get caught on video doing it again’!
Recent cases have seen Palestinians shot on the street, finished off with a bullet to the head or paramedics excessively and violently pepper-sprayed for daring to do their humanitarian work. It all goes to prove there’s one law for Israelis — and everyone else matters not one iota.
