Capture those fleeting moments

If mobile phones without cameras have become passé, mobile manufacturers have gone one step further to develop phones that allow users to shoot video films.
Mobile phone video devices are the ultimate way to capture and share spontaneous moving moments. Unlike camcorders, mobile phones are always with you, so you can capture fleeting moments like a great morning sunrise on the way to work or a baby's first word.
And mobile phone video not only allows you to catch these instants but also to share them with the world as they happen. "Camera phones have been extremely successful in the last few years for two main reasons - a mobile phone with a camera allows people to capture sudden special moments since one is always carrying their cellular phone with them," says Neil Gordon, General Manager, Multimedia Sales and Marketing, Nokia MEA.
"Secondly thanks to the connectivity guaranteed by the mobile phone one can easily and quickly share such pictures with other people. Nokia has further developed the technology by introducing the N93 - a multimedia computer built for optimal, spontaneous mobile video recording.
"With Nokia N93 users can now share high-quality videos caught with a 3.2-megapixel camera equipped with Carl Zeiss optics. In fact they can sit in the director's chair and shoot a personal and unique film with high-quality image taking and enhanced telephone functionality. The sharing of these films can be done via different connectivity features available in the device including Bluetooth, e-mail and other features," says Gordon.
"All Samsung high-end phones come with a feature called TV-out which allows users to view recorded videos, photos and presentations on Power Point, Excel and Word on a TV or connect to a projector and display images," says Sandeep Saighal, Sr. Manager Sales and Marketing, Telecommunication Division, Samsung Gulf Electronics.
"For this category of phones, our target audience can vary from business to high fashion phone users and consumers seeking phones that are rich in features."
Says Gordon, "The N93 promises to be a success as its all-in-one handset boasts high-quality features and applications. Users can leave their digital cameras at home, and capture special moments wherever they occur with a high-quality device."
Launched worldwide in April and introduced in the UAE in July, the N93 is a digital camcorder and multimedia computer in one easy-to-use compact package. The device has a unique feature in the thumb ring that operates the 3x optical zoom - the device feels exactly like a high-performance digital camcorder.
The N93 records videos at VGA resolution and at 30 frames-per-second, in MPEG4 format with DVD-like quality. The recording is accurate, with a video stabilisation feature - which means that the N93 records clear and still videos despite unsteady filming.
Multimedia computer
This multimedia computer also offers advanced connectivity and editing options, as it can be directly connected to any compatible TV for wide-screen viewing.
The N93 has an advantage over regular camcorders with the availability of wireless connectivity, which enables instant sharing of video clips. You can even create high-quality home movies and burn them on DVD with the included Adobe Premiere Elements 2.0 software. "The N93 started shipping to our markets only recently and the feedback received so far has been very positive. Consumers have realised how versatile and reliable the N93 truly is. We expect more success for this latest addition to Nokia's Nseries range in the near future as consumers start experiencing the video shooting, shaping and sharing of their stories with this easy-to-use device," says Gordon.
"Both the Motorazr V3x and Motoming A1200 have one hour of video recording capability. What prompted this functionality were two factors -consumer demand and the technology innovation that enables this feature. Both phones are available throughout the Middle East," says Harout Bedrossian, Product Marketing Manager for Motorola mobile devices in the Middle East.
Video capture
"Video capture is becoming a standard feature but the differentiators will be the length of capture as well as the quality of the video. What sets these phones apart from other handsets with video capture are the iconic design, the size and weight - enhanced portability - of the handset itself. It's a mobile first and a video capture device second," says Bedrossian.
But will movie phones really sell? "Consumers are continuously searching for new features with every new device that hits the market and this gadget is becoming more and more part of the consumer's lifestyle," says Gordon.
"When the camera was first introduced onto a mobile device, it created an unprecedented move. Today an increasing number of phones are equipped with cameras that capture clear photos and people now want to experience taking high-quality videos with their mobile devices, as DVD-quality video capture is becoming increasingly popular in the world of cameras."
