DAY SIX: Wednesday, June 9: Tempted to cheat

I have got into a bit of a routine. I get up, make a fruit smoothie and head to the office. As I have mentioned in previous posts, I have little difficulty observing the raw food diet during daylight hours but I don't think I could take many more salad dinners.

I have been drinking a lot of water and bananas give me enough fuel to get through the day. I am pleasantly surprised that there has been no side affects of the detox such as headaches, stomach pains or any general feelings of weakness.

However, the bottom line is that it is not a very fun diet. I don't crave fast food or fizzy soft drinks in any way at all. But I would absolutely love to add tuna or cheese to a salad or use tortilla chips instead of asparagus to dip into the guacamole. It's definitely the smaller, subtle things that you miss the most. I crave hummus rather than a steak, a sandwich rather than a burger.

I was very, very tempted to break the diet this evening but managed to hold strong with just over 24 hours to go. My other half suggested a trip to the cinema and the thought of a large tub of salted popcorn sent my taste buds into overdrive. In the end I declined and went to bed for another early night.

I have done well to get this far but I'm looking forward to the moment the clock strikes midnight tomorrow evening. Not because I'm dying to eat something unhealthy but because I just want to eat something that's not raw fruit or vegetables.
