It seemed strange that Sky Dive Dubai would have its own iftar tent, but when the invite was sent, how could we resist?

The tent is set on the large grounds of the aerial adventure company and as we drove towards it, a blazing sun could be seen setting into the Arabian Sea — it was beautiful, and devoid of the sometimes stifling buildings that make up the Dubai skyline. The welcome was warm and we were told we could sit anywhere we liked, which, although sounded good, left us a bit at a loss, but we finally found a nice space and settled in to look around.

There are lovely Arabic details with cushions and ornaments which really wanted to come home with me. The atmosphere was relaxed and pleasant. It was a buffet-style meal and mostly Arabic, but it had a twist. In a salad of cucumber and tomatoes, there were chopped chillies — not for the faint-hearted. Other starters included baba ghanoush and the usual breads, dips and pastries.

All the dishes were fresh and tasty. For the mains, they had lamb ouzi, mixed grilled chicken and beef and roast chicken. But the fish was a favourite on our table.

The dessert area had two huge pans with two different types of kunafa — I didn’t know there were so many variations of the cheese-based sweet. They were delicious. There was also fruit, cakes and pastries and I think there was a chocolate fountain, although it wasn’t switched on when we visited.

Overall, it was a lovely evening, the service was good, if not a tiny bit slow — we had to ask three different people for some Moroccan tea which came by the time we had finished our dessert. But these are small things. It’s a great place to go with family and friends. There are large tables for big groups and small comfortable areas for others.

I’d recommend it for a nice change and to get to see what this Sky Dive place is all about.
