Dubai: India’s HCL Infosystems has launched a tablet dedicated for the kids in the UAE. The seven-inch ME Champ tablet has access to more than 500 apps for categories such as games, books, education and free navigation and access to all videos, cartoons under the TV menu. The child can also play music, videos, and view photos on the tablet.

The tablet is aimed at enabling learning along with play for children of all ages. HCL claims that the tablet is specifically meant to improve the cognitive skills of children while empowering parents with a control mechanism.

Tablets are increasingly becoming an enabler for the growing child with the arrival of ‘smart’ classrooms and ‘smart’ teaching methods in schools across the globe and especially in the UAE.

The advantage of the tablet is that it can be controlled by their parents by restricting access to illegal and unwanted websites, thus ensuring peace of mind for the parent.

Srinath Nagarajan, business head of mobility business unit at HCL Infosystems MEA (Middle East and Africa), said that parents can supervise the usage through an in-built ‘Parental Control’ mechanism — Application Manage — to selectively allow apps usage, online navigation for limited access to websites, password protection, live usage statistics enabling complete control, and time management.

He said parents can supervise the usage of the ME Champ using real-time tracking feature whether the kid has used the tablet for gaming or watching cartoons. The tablet can be used to log in as a kid or as a parent. If users log in as a parent it can be used as a regular Android device but if you log in as a kid, kids can only see the apps with parental controls.

The ME Champ is priced at Dh449 and along with an attractive cover and a Stylus worth Dh50 absolutely free.
