Dubai: After coveting the Guinness world record for longest chopsticks last year, Marco Polo Hotel and its signature Indian restaurant, The Bombay will join this year the Dubai Shopping Festival's bid for largest dessert buffet in the world.

The event, organised by Emirates Culinary Guild, will see 41 hotels participating in the world record bid at Uptown Mirdiff on February 13.

Each participating hotels will provide 50 international delectable delicacies at the venue.

Chef Milon Rosario, the new executive chef of Marco Polo Hotel, said he is excited about the event. "I am excited to prepare our new dishes in front of a large crowd at Mirdiff area," Rosario said.

Last year, Marco Polo Hotel also joined the DSF food festival that saw Dubai pitched for a new world record for the longest food buffet.

Hotels hope this year's world record bid will draw twice the number of crowd than last year.

Renhil Krishnan, F&B Director of Marco Polo Hotel, said he is confident that more people will join the even despite fears in the market of low consumer confidence following the global financial crisis.

"Everything slowed down for the past two months till now, but we are positive that this financial turmoil is only a short-term agony for all the businessmen, that is why we are creating a spectacular foodtainment bazaar to let the people know that there is still more to celebrate in life—which is what the DSF message is all about," he said.
