Dubai: With more than 200 films under his belt it's no surprise people turned out in force to catch a glmipse of Indian actor Om Puri.

The star chatted to fans and media before the red carpet gala screening of West is West at the Abu Dhabi Film Festival.

Joined by co-stars Ila Arun and film producer Leslee Udwin, Puri said the capital of the UAE had blown him away.

"I asked a taxi driver if there was any poverty here and he said no. I asked if there was any umemployment, he said no. I said, this must be heaven on earth."

Arun, dressed head-to-toe in pink, worked the red carpet with ease.

"This city has been wonderful. I have been made to feel very welcome. This film is one to watch because it's about a human story. It's about real people no matter where they live in the world. It's about overcoming all odds."

West is West is a follow-up to East is East, which won over fans with its tale of a south Asian family in England.

West is West is showing again on Wednesday, October 20 at 6.30pm at Cinestar 6, Marina Mall in Abu Dhabi.
