Having iftar at Kosebasi is like having a meal at a Turkish mother’s table: your plate is replenished after almost every bite and it’s impossible to turn down the delectable treats that find their way onto said plate.

Unsurprisingly, given the venue, the fare here is rooted in the Middle East, but with a difference.

For the true Turkish experience, try the bulgur soup: made from a whole grain that’s not too common, it makes for a thick and filling broth.

For starters, the table is laden with the ubiquitous salads — fattoush, tomato-cucumber and the like — and hummous (again, like the variety common in the UAE, and yet not, it’s a refreshing take on the ordinary). Then there’s pots of tzatziki — yoghurt-based dips — each with a different ingredient. Good luck deciding between them, and steering clear of the warm, puffed bread sprinkled with sesame seeds.

The waiters serve the pastries as they’re ready — fresh and hot — and it’s a bit like a Lucky Packet, you don’t know what to expect but won’t be disappointed. The grills — chicken cubes, lamb mince kebabs and beef slices — also hit the spot.

We’d also recommend the kunafa, that’s thankfully not too sweet, with a cup of Turkish tea.

Kosebasi can apparently be translated as “cornerstone”. And that’s just what they serve — the old faithfuls of Turkish cuisine. But with a difference.

Iftar is Dh139 and will be served for the first two hours after ending fast. Kosebasi Express at Mirdif City Centre will also have a special iftar offering for Dh59.
