What is Dubai Design District?

Dubai Design District, also known as d3, is the spot for the Middle East's expanding community of creative thinkers. Dubai Design District has a vision of transforming Dubai into an innovation-led economy. It also aims to engage and inspire the emerging talent of the Arab world by giving them a platform to show the rest of the world their creative skills. 


What is Meet d3?

The event is a three day celebration of art, culture and innovative design. Meet d3 will put together over 50 different activations, installations and performances from across the art, design, fashion, music and food world. Everyone is invited to try out different a range of dining options and to explore the outdoor market, which has great original pieces in a unique festival environment. The event will also include musical performances from regional and international talents.

Who can attend Meet d3?

Meet d3 is a free community festival, suitable for all ages, and with no tickets or pre-registration required.

Meet d3 is an inclusive event for all ages. Special programming will be featured for children.

1. Getting there by car

From Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Road: Take the Al Ain Road turn off, continue down Al Ain Road in the direction of Dubai, follow the signs that say Jebel Ali/Abu Dhabi, this will loop you around onto Ras al Khor Road, d3 will then appear on your right hand side

From Sheikh Zayed Road (SZR): Take the exit for Burj Khalifa from SZR. Continue down lower Financial Rd toward Business Bay Crossing. Take the right exit for Business Bay Crossing and Oud Metha Rd E66 after Dubai Mall entrances and Al Asayel Street exit (sign posted also for Latifa Hospital). Continue on the loop and remain in the right lane. Take the exit for Dubai Design District

From Al Khail Road: Head northeast on Al Khail Rd E44. Keep right at the fork to stay on Al Khail Rd E44. Take the exit toward Exit 18. Keep left at the fork to continue toward Exit 18. Keep left at the fork to continue toward Exit 18. Continue onto Exit 18. Take the exit. Keep right to exit back onto Ras Al Khor Rd. Keep left at the fork. Dubai Design District will be the first right

From Bur Dubai: Head southwest on Al Ain Rd E66. Take the right entrance into Dubai Design District after the Emarat Petrol Station. This is opposite Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary and before the Ras Al Khor intersection. Continue straight until you reach the North Block

2. Valet Service: There is a valet parking service located between Buildings 11 & 7.There are two different Valet services:

  • The VIP Valet Service ensures your car is parked at the Valet station for prompt retrieval. There is a Dh60 charge for first 3 hours and then a subsequent charge of 20Dhs. per hour for every additional hour.
  • Standard Valet Service is a 30Dhs. charge for first 3 hours and then a subsequent charge of 10Dhs. per hour for every additional hour

3. Getting there by bus

The bus stop at d3 is located outside building 6. The RTA operates a bus route from the Dubai Mall Metro Station to d3. Check out the bus schedule here


Noteworthy Activations

d3 lounge

The d3 Lounge is a space where visitors can learn more about the Dubai Design District. It allows them to take a look behind the scenes and see what the future of d3 will look like with cool virtual tours. 

DIDI

The Dubai Institute of Design and Innovation (DIDI) is the place that will develop the next generation of designers, and nurture the creative minds.

Nakkash Gallery: Chic Sheep

Nakkash Gallery and d3 will be presenting a wild public art installation, in which they will distribute 100 pieces of ‘Chic Sheep’ all around the venue. Look out for white fluffy creatures!


The Installations

Meet d3 will have a specially curated program of art and design:

Cairo Now!

Cairo Now! is an installation about the Arabian city that never sleeps; Cairo. The exhibition will allow you to explore the buzzing city’s emerging young designers.

Fatima Bint Mohamed Bin Zayed Initiative (FBMI)

This initiative will give you a glimpse into the past at an amazing and interactive carpet weaving workshop, as well as a gorgeous display of fine woven. The goal is to complete a large carpet with the efforts of the entire d3 community.

GIF Paradise by Satwa 3000

The GIF Paradise is an internet lover's dream. The four-room experiential space by Satwa 3000 allows guests to create, as well as star in, their own customised GIF.

Khaleej 2016

A super cool collaboration between Emirati curator and artist, Rami Farook and Kuwaiti artist and designer, Nanu Al-Hamad will bring us an exhibition that reflects the future of creativity in the region.

Lasvit Glass Experience:

This must see exhibition by Lasvit brings a unique Glass Experience show, which allows visitors to make their own unique glass objects.

Light Sowers by Maotik

This interactive installation is a space where visitors create their own audiovisual show made up of fireflies. 

Luster by Noor Jarrah

UAE-based architect and designer Noor Jarrah has created Luster, an interactive outdoor light installation that is activated by users walking through, resting on, and playing in it. So don't be shy, step right in. 

Myneandyours

The artists of Myneandyours unveil an ambitious project titled ‘The Greatest of Mysteries’. It is made up of ten murals, over 500 clouds, and over 50,000 stars.

Osmo by Loop.ph

Make sure you check out Osmo. It's an inflated silver sphere that envelopes groups of visitors and invites them to relax under the stars of a projected universe whilst listening to an ambient soundscape from outer space.

Shrumen Lumen

If you're a fan of Origami, then you have to check out Shrumen Lumen. It's a garden of gigantic origami-inspired kinetic and interactive mushrooms that change colors and change their shape in response to your movements.

Studio AS+R

Studio AS+R will erect a pavilion that truly celebrates the UAE’s diversity.

Ruben Sanchez at Tashkeel

Tahskeel will be showcasing new work exploring the dream world by guest artist Ruben Sanchez.

Slipping, Tripping, Falling, Flipping by James Clar

Artist James Clar has created new pieces especially for the event that highlight the positive and negative human relationship with technology.

Sun Canopy

This hand painted, 3D work of art will play tricks on your mind, since the piece is designed to transform your perception of space with the technology and design of futuristic architecture.


Family Activities

Audi Heroes In Training

Kids will love this little car ride. Audi is bringing a fleet of 20 mini electric Audi R8 Spyder models, so that the kids can participate in an interactive course ride, that's also educational.

HIPA Soorah Challenge

Kids are asked to capture moments and participate in the Soorah Challenge that's being tasked of them by the Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award. Kids should check out the HIPA kids zone for photography contest instructions and a chance to win.

Playable Room by Ototo

Ototo’s Playable Room is the perfect creative space where anyone can make beautiful musical sounds just by touching the objects in the room. 

Sketch Aquarium by TeamLab

Sketch Aquarium is where the art can come to life on the digital aquarium wall. Kids can draw sea creatures and place them on the digital aquarium and watch them swim freely.

TapeScape by Eric Lennartson

TapeScape will ask the kids to stick packing tape in the most unexpected and thought-provoking places, it allows the kids to nurture their sense of curiosity and exploration.


Dining

You can find a range of food trucks, pop ups, as well as local d3 restaurants and cafes to dine at during Meet d3. Expect a range of experiences including food installations and science, celebrity chefs, culinary performances and importantly, the opportunity to just experience really great food! Local cafes include 1Life, Amorino, Coffeöl, Craft Café, Harper’s Bazaar Café, Home Bakery, Ka’ak Al Manara, Mirzam, Molecule, Nostalgia, Tossed and the recently opened Vicolo.


Musical Performances

Meet d3 brings together a diverse roster of music, dance, theatre and various performance art across genres, instruments and technology.
