This camera, similar in size to a bar of soap, costs Dh3,699. However, there is a very good reason for that  — several actually.

The Sony RX100 IV is a powerful device packed into a little body. Also within is the world’s first memory-attached 1.0-type stacked CMOS sensor, Sony had claimed at the time it was announced — but you know, technology happens. The unique feature about this camera is that it’s lightning quick. It takes a second for its lens to extend and then a fraction of a second to focus, shoot and capture.

At 289g, it’s quite heavy for a little thing measuring just 101.6 mmx58.1 mm x 41.0 mm. The 20.1 megapixel (approximately) camera also features a 7.5cm LCD screen and can shoot 4K video. The amount of features packed into the camera are staggering, which include several scene selections, shooting modes and creative and effect options on-board.

I usually end my review by trying to find out what’s wrong with a product instead of fawning over how awesome it is, so let’s go to the possible issues. The only drawback I can think of is damage due to wear and tear — the camera has several seemingly delicate parts such as its pop-up and pop-forward viewfinder, its pop-up flash and its pop-out, pop-forward and pop-upside down LCD screen.

But then, if you remembered how much this costs, you would handle it with care. This is one of the best compact cameras for serious photography enthusiasts with a growing interest in the world of video. It will, without a doubt, make anyone who buys it very happy.
