Sony Mobile’s announcement last week on September 2 at IFA in Berlin was supposed to surprise. After weeks of teasing a potential product launch on Twitter, countless journalists trooped into Hall 20 at Messe Berlin to witness the unveiling of the not-so-well-kept secret that is the new Sony Xperia Z5.

Or a family of Z5s to be precise.

The three new devices that will hit our shores within a couple of weeks are the Xperia Z5 Dual, the Xperia Z5 Compact and a world-first 4K smartphone in the form of the Xperia Z5 Premium Dual.

Each device will be available in white and black together with additional colour options: gold and green  for the Dual, and yellow and coral for the Compact.

Z5 Dual and Compact
Together with a wide range of features common with any flagship device out there, the Z5s feature a revamped and brand new 23-MP Exmor RSTM for mobile sensor, with the fastest autofocus in a leading smartphone.

Other features include a 5.2-inch display (4.6-inch on the Compact), an integrated fingerprint sensor, a waterproof design and a refreshingly elegant finish that includes a metallic frame and a frosted glass back.

Z5 Premium Dual
Its name says it all and on paper, the Premium seems like it can live up to its expectations. The device can automatically upscale your content to 4K while enhancing photos, videos and any content on the device.

Similar to its not-so-premium counterparts, this device runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, powered by a 3230 mAh battery that can reportedly last up to two days – a feature I honestly cannot wait to check out for myself.

The Z5 Dual and the Compact will be available mid-October and the Premium in mid-November.

The Z5 Compact will cost Dh2,299, while the Z5 Dual and Z5 Premium Dual are tentatively priced at Dh2,699 and Dh2,899 respectively.
