For someone who wakes up a little before teatime, brunches don’t really make sense. Nor do superheroes. But what was interesting was the idea that you can dress as one and have an appetite like one. Now that’s what really piqued my interest and I decided to wake and take my superhuman appetite to the Mazina Superhero Brunch at the Address Marina accompanied by a friend who does not like loading on carbs.

The Saturday brunch works better for families though – those un-caped crusaders fighting to salvage some domestic bliss in a world bustling with tiny feet and major tantrums. The people at the restaurant obviously understand that, which is why they have everything to keep the little ones occupied with energy-zapping activities - Wii stations, face painting, bouncy castle, magic show… the works. Thankfully, I had left my costume at home or I would have joined the fun. Being with a hungry friend who had subsisted on diet food for weeks, leading to the brunch was bad enough.

As he began fastidiously checking out the food, I decided to cast my practiced eye over the massive spread on offer. The place is huge and had a variety of cuisines - Japanese, Indian, Chinese, Thai, Spanish, Indonesian and Continental. They had something for every taste and palate, with different types of meat and a lavish spread of salads. Ideally, there was even a healthy food section. Like everyone else, I turned a blind eye to it.

For me the highlight was the seafood station - with the smoked mackeral, steamed prawns, mussels and king crabs, and the oysters. Besides, the roasted beef striploin, the pan seared duck with orange brut blanc, the seafood paella, the herb crusted lamb rack and the baked salmon with fruit salsa were to die for.

There should have been no room for dessert, but unlike my friend I made some. It had everything from Vanilla Crème Brulee, Crème Fraiche Cheesecake, to apple tart, chocolate brownie and raspberry mousse. However, the sticky toffee pudding takes the cake literally!
