The Obi Crane S550 is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core processor and runs on Android KitKat 4.4.2. The device is fitted with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage — with nearly 3GB of this occupied by default applications — and a microSD card slot for up to 32GB in external memory.

The dual-SIM smartphone incorporates slots for both standard SIM and micro SIM cards, eradicating the need for that fine line between your personal and professional lives — a value-added service that many dual-SIM devices offer.

The display features a 5.5-inch IPS LCD touchscreen panel with a resolution of 960x540 pixels, which is rather disappointing since the 5.5-inch LG G3 manages 1440x2560 pixels and its brother, the Octopus S520, offers a resolution of 720x1280.
FYI, since the Crane retails for Dh599 and the Octopus for Dh799, there are bound to be sacrifices, and unfortunately, screen resolution is one of them.

Carrying on, the device is equipped with an 8MP rear camera and 5MP front-facing camera (an upgrade from the octa-core Octopus’ 2MP front). The picture quality is downright amazing, and the camera is packed with a variety of features ranging from HDR mode and geotagging to panoramic photos, face detection and
voice capture.

One of the main features of smartphones today are long-life batteries, and luckily, the Crane does not disappoint. It comes with a 3.7V Li-ion battery with a capacity of 2,400mAh. The battery also offers a reported six hours of talk time. And the best part is that it is removable.

Call me old-fashioned, but I prefer devices with removable batteries as you can swap them with fully charged spares when they run out of juice.
