Greenery in the midst of concrete blocks are a pleasant sight. Residents of Abu Dhabi are blessed with greenery along the roads, parks and between the high-rise buildings. I thank the relevent authorities for this.

However, I now think that it is time to replace most of the old, fragile and unhealthy trees in the city that are posing to be a possible threat to pedestrians as well as vehicles parked nearby.

This photograph shows a scene from the Tourist Club area in Abu Dhabi. A similar accident, where a tree collapsed, occurred earlier, too. But, luckily nobody was hurt and no major damage was caused to the vehicles around. The mosque and the park nearby are surrounded by tall trees out of which many are to be replaced by new ones to avoid such incidents from happening.

Since winter has arrived, moderate and heavy winds can be expected at any time and such fragile trees become a major concern. Municipal authorities are trimming the trees from time to time, but still a lot of the trees are being uprooted, maybe because of its old age.

I hope the authorities do the needful at the earliest.
