Dubai:Dubai is gearing up to host Dubai Global Energy Forum and Water Electricity, Energy Technology and Environment Exhibition, two of the largest events about energy related issues, from April 15-17.

Having this two big events at the same time in Dubai is sending a clear message that the UAE in general and Dubai in particular put energy and environment topics on top of their agenda.” DGEF and WETEX are designed to provide a platform for leaders and experts to exchange views on the latest technological developments and advances in the clean energy sector, and encourage discussions about policies, programmes and investment opportunities.

Hosting these events is in line with the Government initiative ‘Green Economy for Sustainable Development,’ which aims to put the UAE as a world leader in the field of sustainability. Moreover, DGEF and WETEX are key components of the Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy 2030, which has set Dubai on the path towards securing a sustainable supply of energy and enhancing demand efficiency for water, power, and fuel.

“We want Dubai to not only become a world leader in energy diversification and sustainable development, but also for the Emirate to gain recognition as an important global platform for discussing clean energy issues,” said Saeed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Supreme Council and MD and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa).

“Events like the Dubai Global Energy Forum attract the top government policy makers, industry representatives and other significant stakeholders; they provide a unique opportunity for collaboration and sharing of best practices.”

The second session of the Dubai Global Energy Forum, which will be held at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre organised by the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, the theme for this year’s Forum is ‘Clean Energy for Sustainable Development.’

The main topics that will be discussed during this event include value creation and financing in the clean energy sector, market creation and regulation, and technology innovation and deployment. There will also be insights into growth possibilities, such as nuclear energy’s contribution to sustainable development and the potential of solar to provide power for the UAE and the wider GCC region.

Based on DGEF 2011 recommendations, the forum this year will focus on setting up effective policies in the field of clean energy to manage supply and demand, attracting investment, encouraging effective partnership between the public and private sectors, diversifying the energy mix to ensure energy security, and meeting some of the challenges that impede optimal demand-side management, particularly influencing consumer behaviour in an effort to reduce energy and water consumption.

Key to the success of transitioning to clean energy is encouraging financial institutions to fund projects, creating the right environment for investment, technological innovation and deployment in the fields of clean energy and sustainable development as well as solar power will feature highly amongst the topics to be discussed with international speakers.
