Within less than a kilometre radius along the stretch of Al Mankhool Road, Bur Dubai there exist four danger spots that are prone to cause traffic accidents. These spots have existed for many years and yet no safety measures have so far been implemented.

I have been a resident in this area for nine years and have witnessed many incidents along this stretch, which would have been preventable if the authorities considered my proposal.

My observation is that most of the accidents that happened here are either because of drivers who are impatient and ignorant or they simply under estimate the speed limit, which is currently 80 kilometres per hour and in my opinion should be reduced to 60.

Danger spot 1:

At the traffic signal (pictured), cars in the left lane have the right of way to turn left in to the service lane. However, many cars turn left from the centre lane, which is illegal. This creates a potential for an accident unnecessarily.

I suggest that the authorities officially allow motorists to take left from the center lane and make arrangements for them to do so. This will avoid accidents from happening.

Danger spot 2:

Cars using the service lane do not stop and give way to those entering from the main road. Since this is a blind corner, it is again a potential accident spot and many accidents have happened here already.

I suggest that the authorities install a speed breaker just after the turn. This will slow down the traffic and surely prevent accidents from happening.

Danger spot 3:

Many cars use the u-turn (pictured) on this stretch of road to turn on to Al Rolla Street. They face a tricky situation from the oncoming traffic. Many drivers tend to under estimate the traffic speed when taking the turn.

I suggest the authorities to close off this turning as there is safe u-turn further up the road.

Danger spot 4:

There is a similar problem at the u-turn adjacent to Golden Sands Hotel. I have the same suggestion for this — motorists can use the u-turn ahead.

I hope the authorities will consider implementing more preventive measures in these spots for the good of all drivers who travel along this route daily, before more accidents happen.
