Dubai: Nine finalists battled it out at the Grandma’s Recipe Contest on June 12 at Arabian Courtyard Hotel & Spa’s Mumtaz Mahal, Indian speciality restaurant. In what turned out to be a flavourfully vigorous competition, the seventh annual cooking contest saw the finalist chefs cooking up some unique dishes. Unique? Each recipe had to be one that had been passed on for generations.

Dishes were judged by a panel comprising four experts who rated the preparations based on taste, innovation and presentation.

With its bright palace-like interior, Mumtaz Mahal bloomed with life as contestants took joy in doing what they loved while their families supported them.

Lubna Asif, the winner, walked away with gifts from sponsors Lindt Master Swiss Chocolatier, Deal Time and Meena Jewellers for her dish Muthi Kabab (Fist Kebab). “I feel just awesome!” she said, “Insha’Allah, I will participate again.”

The first and second runners up were Faheema Yasmeen and Zaitoon Hameed.
