Dubai: Cycling in the UAE received another boost on Thursday with the announcement of a new three-race criterium series at the Nad Al Sheba cycle track.

The Go Sports Criterium Series will kick off on February 1 with the first of the one-hour races, with the second instalment scheduled for March 22 and the final event on April 26.

The criterium series is aimed at catering for the more experienced cyclists in the region and offers the opportunity for riders to test themselves and improve their fitness. The races will be held at intermediate and advanced level, with the races lasting for one hour, plus one lap around the 8-km closed loop circuit.

There will be an overall series winner in both categories as well as event prizes for the fastest lap, the sprint lap and the most laps completed in the fastest time.

The three events will give riders the chance to measure their progress over three months and there will also be a prize for the most improved in the intermediate category.

A spokesperson for event organisers Promoseven Sports Marketing said: “We are pleased to be introducing this new initiative to further promote cycling in Dubai and the UAE. Cycling has grown tremendously over the past few years, and events of this nature provide yet another opportunity for cyclists to enjoy their sport while improving their skills.

“We are excited about being part of the growth of this great sport and we would like to express our appreciation to Go Sport for sponsoring this event.”
