Dubai: A new Dubai initiative called ‘The Friday Market’ will bring together charity and shopping under one roof, starting on January 29.

Dar Al Ber Society, a Dubai-based semi government charity organisation, is collaborating with JYK, a UAE fashion house, to open the market in Rolla Street, opposite Baqer Mohebi supermarket in Bur Dubai. Taking place every Friday, the market will include several big brands as well as small and medium businesses and individual vendors looking to showcase their products.

The aim of the market is to raise awareness about Dar Al Ber Society, as well as the various humanitarian activities it supports. The charity has been actively supporting the underprivileged section of society by paying for their basic needs such as medical expenses, schools fees, house rent and food. It also supplies relief materials to other countries affected by natural calamities and other problems.

Juhi Yasmeen Khan, the founder of JYK Fashion House, said the concept of the Friday market comes from the idea of a flea market where individuals sell their wares. “In bringing big brands together and individual vendors under one roof, with high quality and discounted prices, the market is providing an opportunity for both vendors and customers to support a noble cause merely by selling or buying the products sold,” she said.

Among the items sold will be garments, textiles, accessories such as jewellery and bags, shoes, books, toys, electronics and household items.

The Friday Market, an open air weekly marketplace, will be held every Friday from from 3pm to 11pm between January 29, 2016 and May 27, 2016.
