Dubai: Working hours at the amnesty centre in Al Aweer in Dubai have been extended from 8am to 10pm up to the deadline day due to an increase in the number of amnesty seekers, said a senior official on Wednesday.

Major General Mohammad Ahmad Al Merri, director general of the General Directorate for Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai (GDRFA) said that the amnesty centre in Al Aweer area was ready for a last-minute rush of amnesty seekers.

During a visit to the centre on Wednesday, he said that around 995 applications from illegal people were being processed daily at the facility.

“Due to the increase in the number of illegals who are applying to take advantage from the amnesty granted by the Ministry of Interior we decided to extend our working hours to cope with the rush,” he said.

Major General Al Merri urged people to apply as soon as possible as the countdown to the end of amnesty had begun.

The last day of the two-month amnesty period is February 3. “Few days are left and illegal people must benefit from this amnesty,” he said.
