Dubai: A labour office opened recently at the Investigation, Follow-up and Deportation Department in Al Aweer to help the public finalise residency and labour issues more quickly, said a senior Ministry of Labour official.

Humaid Bin Deemas, Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Labour, said opening this office would make it easier for people to finalise their requirements in one step.

"We are working with the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs to overcome the phenomena of illegals in the country," said Bin Deemas.

Major General Mohammad Ahmad Al Merri, Director-General of the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai (GDRFA) said yesterday there will be more cooperation between the GDRFA and other departments.

"We are looking to open more offices here from other government departments which is part of mutual efforts to offer the best service to the public," he said.

He said this labour office had opened to help illegals sort out their issues in one go by either leaving the country or amending their residency status.

He said the GDRFA was also working on establishing a new electronic project with the Ministry of Labour to reduce queuing.

Lt Colonel Khalaf Al Gaith, assistant director-general at the department, said opening this office would overcome obstacles related to residency and labour issues.
