Sharjah: Some 6,500 people have applied for amnesty at the Sharjah Naturalisation and Residency department.
About 4,000 of them have legalised their situation.
Brigadier Ali Nasser Al Fardan, Deputy Director of Sharjah Police said Sharjah Police and the Naturalisation and Residency Department are cooperating and have joined efforts to implement the amnesty procedures.
Brigadier Al Fardan said those who violate the residency and labour law affect the security and social situation. They also cause harm to themselves.
The department has established a centre at the Indian School in Sharjah where they are processing and delivering passports of absconders. The number of staff working there will be increased to finalise transactions as quickly as possible. Classrooms have been opened for applicants to relax while the officials finalise their procedures.
