Dubai: The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has announced plans to host a series of e-commerce workshops entitled “eBiz SOS 2014”. The workshops are currently running and will continue through November 23.
The workshop, “eBiz SOS” aims to promote the development of electronic transaction and commerce in UAE. The series is aimed at encouraging the competitiveness and growth of eCommerce by addressing vital actions to unlock the full potential of electronic transaction and commerce in the country, as well as overcoming existing barriers and improving consumer confidence in the digital economy.
The three workshops, to take place at the TRA’s office in Dubai, will gather key industry stakeholders from the entire UAE e-commerce sector, where participants will discuss how best eBusiness entrepreneurs can utilise the facilities available to them in UAE as well as what government can do to support business start-ups to enter the e-commerce market.
Reliable networks
“Rolling out these workshops will help ensure that the entire UAE e-commerce ecosystem is best placed to take advantage of the nation’s secure and reliable networks and identify ways to contribute to the development of the UAE digital economy,” said Mohammad Nasser Al Ganem, TRA Director-General adding that recent statistics indicate that GCC e-commerce sales are estimated to grow to almost $15 billion (Dh55 billion) by 2015 and UAE is leading this progressive trend.
“Evidently, e-commerce has a huge bearing on driving economic development and any effort that seeks to enhance both public and private sector e-commerce strategies is one of national importance. We are currently pursuing a range of policies that will encourage local small and medium-sized enterprises [SMEs] to derive their business online and support people wanting to launch their own e-commerce store in UAE.”
