Dubai: Toshiba has become first PC company to release a Windows notebook that competes with Apple’s Retina MacBook.

Toshiba’s Kirabook has a screen that rivals MacBook Pro with a resolution of 2560 x1440 pixels compared to a normal PC resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels while the 13-inch MacBook Pro has a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels and the 15 inch MacBook Pro has a resolution of 2880 x 1800 pixels.

“No other manufacturer has an i7 processor and touch screen in this form factor and gives 12 hours of continuous battery life and 22 hours of on and off use,” Binu Thomas, head of product and services – computer systems division at Toshiba Gulf, told Gulf News.

The 13.3-inch ultrabook has two USB3.0, one USB 2.0 and one HDMI ports. It weighs 2.97 pounds.

It is powered by fourth generation Intel i7 processor, 8GB of RAM and 256GB Solid State Drive.

Thomas said the device is crafted from ultra-strong Corning Glass plus a fingerprint-resistant coating.

Toshiba will be launching the Kirabook with only i7 processors and it will be available for Dh7,299.
