Dubai: BlackBerry users in Riyadh and Jeddah reported that services on their smartphones returned to normal after an early suspension on Friday.

Saudi Arabia's government said on August 3 that it would stop BlackBerry Messaging (BBM) if talks with Canada-based manufacturer Research In Motion (RIM) did not address Riyadh's security concerns.

One user in Jeddah told Gulf News that there was no problem with his or his wife's BBM service except for a slight glitch in the early part of the day that could "probably be attributed to the instrument" itself.

The UAE too has announced that it will suspend BBM and related services due to concerns about national security.
