Dubai: The Middle and Africa’s audiovisual market is forecast to grow from $2.79 billion (Dh10.2 billion) in 2012 to $4.63 billion by 2016, up 13 per cent annually, according to a statement by the trade association InfoComm International on Sunday.

The market’s growth will be driven by large infrastructure developments, such as the World Expo 2020, which Dubai won the bid to host last November, and the 2022 Fifa World Cup Qatar.

The UAE audiovisual market, meanwhile, is expected to grow from $700 million in 2012 to $1.24 billion by 2016, making it the fastest-growing and second-largest in the region. Dubai and the UAE are the region’s audiovisual hubs, serving other regional markets and beyond, according to InfoComm.

“Boosted by Dubai, the Middle East and Africa region offers strong audiovisual market potential, thanks to strong investment,a young online population, and a low penetration of audiovisual adoption,” stated Richard Tan, executive director of InfoComm Asia.

In Dubai, World Expo 2020-related developments are driving demand for audiovisual solutions, especially in entertainment, venues, and events, according to the statement.

InfoComm Asia and the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) are organising InfoComm MEA 2014, a trade exhibition and summit on the audiovisual market, which will be held at the DWTC from October 13 to 16.
