Dubai: Huawei has launched the Ascend D1 quad XL, the powerhouse of a smartphone with a giant battery to boot.

It runs on 1.4GHz quad-core processor, first in the world, and powered by Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. It is Jelly Bean ready.

Priced at Dh1,699, the device utilises a 4.5-inch IPS+ LCD display with 720 x 1280 pixels across it – that’s 330 PPI, more than the iPhone 5. With this device you also get the extra half an inch of screen real-estate as well, too You’ve got a couple of options for connecting to a larger display with this smartphone as well, including both DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) and MHL (Mobile High-Definition Link) – the latter being HDMI (high-definition multimedia interface) with the proper adapter via the microUSB port at the side of the phone.

It also has a 8GB internal storage, 1GB of RAM, and a microSD card slot that will allow you an additional 32GB of storage if you pop your own card in. You’ve also got an 8 megapixel camera on the back as well as a 1.3 megapixel shooter on the front made for video chat.

The device’s drivers support Dolby 5.1 surround sound and it does sound rather nice blasting out of its single main speaker on the back – of course as always, we’re looking to get that big beast set up on the front, where all speakers should be, in the end.

For average use, the battery lasts for around three days and for heavy use around two days.
