Dubai: The UAE National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology launched during Gitex Technology Week the a new UAE Weather application for smartphones and iPads, offering instant news about current weather conditions.

Rashed Al Jazeeri, Director of Development Operation department at the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology told Gulf News: “The new application gives accurate details about current weather conditions in addition to three days prediction for any location on world map.”

He added that the application includes satellite images, land station, weather radar and marine forecast.

“The smart programme has hourly warnings which send applicants an alarm to attract their attention in case of sand storms, rain, tornado, vogue or any other bad weather condition.”

Al Jazeeri remarked that the number of service users has recorded more than 25,000; however, it is expected to grow more after launching the application.

“It is an easier option to access,” he said.

“The Centre has two specially-instrumented aircraft for the cloud seeding project, that are used in conjunction with five weather radars in order to carryout rain enhancement activities.”
