Multiple applicants have applied for the same string and if they don’t solve the issue among themselves, auction is the final resort, Akram Atallah, president of global domain’s division at Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).

He said an auction will be held to award the string to the applicant. The highest bidder will get the domain name.

The auction period starts in the March-April timeframe after the Landrush period and will go for about few months.

“We will auction 20 domain names a month and if the applicants settle between themselves, then will be able to do it faster,” he said.

The Landrush period for .sabaka had started on January 2 and goes on for 30 days. The Landrush period is for anyone, individuals and companies, to apply.

Asked when .dubai and .abudhabi country codes will happen, Akram said that ICANN has ordered all the applications by priority. It all depends on the priority order and how quickly they are ready to proceed with the applications.
