Dubai: The chief information officers’ work is exceedingly difficult and the UAE values their skills, knowledge, vision, judgement and hard work, according to Shaikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development.
“You are sizing the opportunity today and hope you will continue to cooperate internally and internationally,” said Shaikh Nahyan in a keynote speech at the IDC Middle East CIO Summit 2014 held in Dubai on Monday.
More than 300 delegates from across the region are taking part in the two-day event to explore the pivotal role of the CIO in the new business world of technology transformation.
“The last five years have seen the emergence of a new era in computing,” said Crawford Del Prete, chief research officer of the research firm International Data Corporation (IDC). “Harnessing the power of key technology pillars such as big data, mobile, cloud, and social media, this unstoppable force is driving an evolution in the role of the CIO, transforming entire industries, and empowering customers in new ways.”
He said the new era of transformation will impact the Middle East IT landscape over the coming five to 10 years.
This was also echoed by Abdullah Hashim, senior vice-president of digital services at Etisalat UAE, who said that the role of IT professionals has evolved and is critical in transforming the new business world.
“The summit is a strategic event which helps us engage with the relevant stakeholders and showcase our range of services and solutions,” Hashim said.
