Dubai: About 35 Indian information and communication technology (ICT) companies will be participating in the Indian national pavilions, organised by the Electronics and Computer Software Export Promotion Council of India (ESC) at Gitex 2009, from October 18-22, Kamal Vachani, regional director of ESC for the Middle East, said.

In total, there will be around 50 Indian ICT companies at Gitex 2009. The pavilions will be in Hall 2 and 8 and the Zabeel hall.

The Indian participants will be using Gitex 2009 as a platform to launch their new products and services. M/s Angler iTech will launch its Fleet management software which provides real time vehicle location and tracking. It includes additional security controls like speed monitoring, over braking and remote ignition on and off.

The global recession had not badly effected the export of electronics hardware and this sector registered growth of 19 per cent during 2008-2009 in comparison to 13.44 per cent the previous year. In value terms, export from India during 2008-2009 is estimated to be $3.91 billion (Dh14.4 billion), up from $3.27 billion estimated in 2007-2008. The major items of export during 2008-2009 are: UPS, inverters, televisions, DVDs/CDs, solar-power products, and connectors.

India's export of electronics and computer software services during this period registered growth of 14 per cent from pervious year.

The global economy did, however, have some impact on India's computer software and services exports. In value terms, exports of during 2008-2009 are estimated to be $49.54 billion, up from 43.46 billion estimated in the previous year.

During Gitex 2009 India's leading UPS/inverter manufacturers will be displaying their products in hall 2. The Companies include: SU-Kam, Genus Power Infrastructure and Luminous Power Technologies.

Dubai's geographical proximity to the Indian subcontinent and central Asia, combined with its easy access to Europe and the eastern Mediterranean make it the location of choice for many businesses. A number of Indian companies therefore find Dubai an ideal location for enhancing their businesses, Vachani said.
