Dubai: Etisalat has started offering its internet TV service — eLife — on iPads and computers from today (Tuesday), a top offcial told Gulf News.

“You can watch it on 3G, 4G, Fibre optic or DSL as of today. First you need to have an eLife connection,” Ramiro Ruiz, Director of eLife TV at etisalat, said.

The catch is only customers with 30Mpbs broadband speed or above can access the eLife on iPads.

Customers need to go the Apple’s UAE apps store and download the app.

Currently eLife is only offered on fixed home broadband through fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) service.

“We will make it available across all broadband speeds very soon. Majority of our customers are 8Mbps users. Right now we want to make sure our quality of service is high,” he said.

Etisalat was trying to negotiate content restrictions regarding tablets with networks for quite some time.

“Out of the 450 channels offered on eLife, only 120 channels is available on iPad and computers. Every day we will be adding around 10 channels each. Eventually, our intention is to have all of them on multiple devices,” Ruiz said.

Ruiz says that etisalat is still getting the rights for certain movies and not all the video-on-demand is available on iPad.

“Our goal is to make all channels through the broadband connection available on major devices, starting with the iPad,” he said.

Around 600,000 customers enjoy double and triple play in the UAE.

“We are looking at opening up our eLife TV to other multiple screens as we have a lot of content on hand,” he said.
