Dubai|: The damaged submarine Internet cable in the Mediterranean Sea which currently is causing a slowdown in UAE web traffic will be fixed by Tuesday, April 20, telecom provider du said yesterday.

On Thursday, etisalat said that a cable cut has caused disruptions in its internet traffic, resulting in slower connections for some of its customers. Traffic has been rerouted to ensure seamless connection, etisalat said. According to a statement by du, its customers have not been affected by the disruption as web traffic has been automatically shifted to alternative international routes. The cable repair ship is expected to arrive today at the site of the damage between Alexandria and Sicily.

The SEA-ME-WE 4 cable is a constant cause of problems, especially for Middle East customers. The latest disruption of the cable, which leads from Marseille to Singapore and was constructed by Alcatel and Fujitsu, was disrupted twice in January and December 2008.
