Dubai: The Dubai Airports Freezone’s (Dafza) mobile application has been downloaded more than 5,000 times since it was launched last year, a company executive said yesterday.

Buthaina Hamad Bin Fahad, Director, Information & Communication Technology at Dafza, said in an interview at Gitex Technology Week that the application was launched to attract new customers to the free zone.

The application also offers services to existing customers, such as payment and visa services, as well as to employees in the freezone. Bin Fahad said 35 per cent of all customer transactions are made with the mobile application. Dafza has 1,600 registered tenants.

At the time of its launch, in 2013, the application offered half of all available services on the Dafza’s website. The airport free zone announced at Gitex that the services on the application now mirror the website and that they have Wi-Fi across the free zone.

Bin Fahad declined to state how much the government-owned entity is investing in its mobile application saying that it was a rolling investment with the application upgraded every quarter. Earlier, a Dafza spokesperson told Gulf News that the free zone will be targeting companies from Australia, China and India next year.
