If you described Sosauce as a social networking site for travellers, you'd be right, but that wouldn't convey a lot of what the website is about.
Basically, the site is for people who like to travel and share their adventures with their friends. You can blog, add photos and mark where you've been on a map, but unlike Facebook or MySpace, the site isn't profile-based. You don't enter your personal information or try to build up a large friends list. Think of it as more of a journal for your own travels that can be shared online.
Entering your information takes some time. You can't just click on a map to select the places you've been. Instead, you have to type in names. That's not a huge burden, but it's rather slow.
You don't have to enter in all the information at once, though. You can write your blog and when you finally get around to uploading your photos, it's easy to link them together.
The site also has some very cool ways of displaying your content too. There is a virtual apartment, where you can hang your photos on the walls, and the books in the room contain your travel journals.
With only a few exceptions, the site is well designed. Navigation bars are clearly marked, and the site does have a relatively clean feel to it. I say relatively because some of the windows overlap and can become a little cluttered.
I had a couple of other minor issues with the site, too. First, searching the site can be a little tricky, since search results are based on user input. I found a couple of nice photos of the Pyramids at Giza; however, users had tagged the photos as Egypt. Anyone looking for "Pyramids" or "Cairo" wouldn't have found anything.
Second, despite the site's excellent design, it can be a little difficult to navigate at first. Moving from your content to other people's content is a little cumbersome.
However, don't let those issues distract you. For anyone with wanderlust, the site has a lot to offer in terms of content and usability.
