Dubai: Giant TVs in the 65-plus inch category are flying off the shelves in the UAE.

Figures from industry analysts GfK show a four-fold increased in sales of massive screens between the last quarter of 2012 and the same period in 2013.

Comparing sales figures from the fourth quarter of 2012 and the fourth quarter of 2013, GfK found that bigger was better for consumers, with TVs in the 65” and above category witnessing the most significant growth, at 396 per cent, and TVs in the 80” and above category experiencing a four-fold increase.

Commenting on the latest figures, Vinood Nair, General Manager of TV Business at Samsung Gulf Electronics said: “The rate of growth in the large-panel segment is remarkable, but it’s not surprising.

"Thanks to advancements in HD technology, consumers can get a cinema-style experience at home — that is, a wider field of view and a fantastic sonic experience — at home, and they can get it at more attractive prices than they could five, or even two years ago.”
