Abu Dhabi: The second edition of the Abu Dhabi Electronics Shopper (ADES 2014), a consumer electronics show, is set to kick off on Wednesday at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (Adnec).

The four-day event will run until March 1, and will see participation of around 35 exhibitors including retail outlets such as Sharaf DG, Plug Ins, E-max, and Costless, among others. Electronics companies such as Samsung, Philips, and Sharp will also take part in ADES, showcasing gadgets that include the latest mobile phones, home and office automation appliances, security and control systems, sports and medical equipment, and high definition televisions, among others.

This year’s show is expected to attract over 100,000 visitors, and generate Dh50 million in sales.

“Smartphone demand is rising rapidly, and will be further boosted by the strong take-up of 4G LTE subscriptions. Computer sales [are] expected to increase from Dh8 billion in 2013 to Dh9 billion in 2017,” said Dony Cyril, exhibition director at Dome Exhibitions, organisers of the show.

Exclusive deals

“Leveraging this trend, the second edition of ADES is looking to extend the benefits of exclusive deals across a wider target segment — a significant reason behind our strategy to double the exhibition space and bring in more value-additions in terms of event agenda,” he added.

Set over a surface area of over 7,000 square metres, the exhibition will offer visitors a range of bundle deals, special offers, and discounts.

“The electronics sector in the UAE has grown by 28 per cent. Technology has improved over the last year, so naturally at this year’s ADES, there will bring more up-to-date offers, and products,” Antoine Georges, managing director at Dome Exhibitions, told Gulf News.

He added that the event serves as an attraction for tourists who visit the show for its discounted products.

“This is a yearly show, and people wait for it to get new products. There will be lots of surprises during the show,” Georges said.

Last year’s edition of ADES drew 35 exhibitors, and around 68,000 visitors.
