Dubai: Xperia Z4 is not going to be the next flagship smartphone from Sony but it is the Xperia Z3+.

Mansoor Ahmed, product marketing manager at Sony Mobile Communications Middle East and Africa, told Gulf News that Xperia Z4 is only for the Japanese market and globally, it is going to be Z3+.

The Japanese manufacturer has stuck to the same slim (6.9mm) and lightweight (144 grams) design, similar to Z3, but a big improvement in hardware specs.

The dual SIM 5.2-inch device is powered by 64 bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 octa-core processor with 3GB of RAM and 32GB internal storage capacity. The storage capacity can be expanded up to 128GB via microSD card slot.

The main camera features the 20.7MP camera with a 25mm wide-angle G lens and large 1/ 2.3 image sensor while the 5MP Exmor front camera for better selfies.

“We have taken feedback from the customers to improve the hardware specs and the battery life has been increased to give two full days of heavy use due to the processor’s efficiency,” he said.

It is expected to hit the shelf after June 15 in UAE and Saudi Arabia but Sony hasn’t fixed the price yet.

Not only it is waterproof and dust proof, it also features a capless USB port making it easier and more convenient to charge the phone.

Z3+ dual comes available in a choice of four colours — classic black, white, copper and aqua green.

The company is struggling in the smartphone segment from the likes of Apple and Samsung in the high end and Chinese makers like Lenovo and Huawei in the mid-range segment.

But the company is not exiting the phone business and its CEO Hiroki Totoki had said that mobile will be at our heart of future business.

The company has sold more than 30 million Xperia Z units globally.

Ahmed said that the audio quality has been improved and it upscales the audio fidelity of the existing MP3 or AAC tracks to near high-res audio quality.

“It supports digital noise cancelling and can reduce ambient noise by up to 98 per cent. Users can enjoy optimal audio settings when connecting any headphones, as the device senses both the type and style of headset and automatically adjusts the audio settings accordingly for best sound experience,” he said.
